Anthea Buys

Anthea is a curator and writer interested in fabulation and philosophy. Her PhD (2021) looked at Constant’s extended art-urbanism project New Babylon and current research focuses on the work of South African, France-based performance artist Steven Cohen. She has lived and worked in Bergen (Norway), New York City, Cape Town and Johannesburg and is an infrequent guest lecturer in various cities, mostly around Europe.

Anthea Buys (b.1984, Johannesburg) is a writer and curator based in Johannesburg, South Africa.  Anthea has published essays on art and literature in a variety of academic journals, essay collections, monographs and in the media. She has also curated exhibitions at institutions including Hordaland Kunstsenter (where she worked as director, 2014-2017), Tallinn Art Hall, Palais de Tokyo, WIELS project space, and the Iziko South African National Gallery.  From 2021-2022 she founded and ran FORMS, a gallery without a space based in South Africa and on the internet.
